Nigeria’s Super Eagles B are gearing up for their second group game at the African Nations Championship (CHAN), currently being co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
The CHAN tournament is special because it only features players who play in their home country’s domestic leagues. For Nigeria, that means every player in coach Eric Chelle’s squad comes from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The Eagles booked their ticket to the competition after edging rivals Ghana in the intense home-and-away “jollof derby.”
In the build-up to CHAN, Nigeria camped in Zanzibar from July 25 to July 31 for a second-phase training session. During that period, they played two friendlies against Zanzibar, drawing both 0-0 and 2-2.
Their tournament opener didn’t go as planned, as they fell 1-0 to Senegal. Sudan, meanwhile, kicked off with a 1-1 draw against Congo.
Nigeria’s CHAN history has been a mixed bag. They claimed bronze in 2014, reached the final in 2018, but struggled in other editions. In 2016, they crashed out in the group stage. They also missed the finals in Algeria two years ago and didn’t qualify for the 2021 tournament in Cameroon.
Time and Where to Watch
The Sudan vs Nigeria showdown will take place on Tuesday, August 11, 2025. It’s the second of three group games for both teams and will be crucial for their knockout stage ambitions.
Kick-off is at 6:00 p.m. Nigerian time, with live coverage on SuperSport (DSTV), beIN Sport, and SABC Sport.
