Former Germany head coach Joachim Low is reportedly set for a surprise return to international management, with multiple sources in Ghana claiming he is in advanced talks to take over the Black Stars ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Low, who guided Germany to the 2014 World Cup title, is said to be close to agreeing terms, with only final contract details left before the appointment can be completed. Reports in Ghana add that the deal would be worth around €150,000 per month.

Why Ghana are considering Joachim Low for FIFA World Cup 2026

Ghana are looking to make a quick managerial change after dismissing Otto Addo earlier this week. Addo had been in charge for roughly two years, but the most recent run of results reportedly pushed the football association to act.

The Black Stars have gone four matches without a win or a draw, with defeats listed as:

  • Japan 2-0 Ghana
  • South Korea 1-0 Ghana
  • Austria 5-1 Ghana
  • Germany 2-1 Ghana

With FIFA World Cup 2026 qualification and preparation becoming increasingly important, Ghana are aiming to install an experienced coach who has managed at the highest level.

Low’s biggest achievement remains Germany’s 2014 World Cup triumph, where they defeated Argentina 1-0 in the final, a record that strengthens his appeal as Ghana look to return to the global stage at the FIFA World Cup 2026 in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
